Coping With Disjunctions in Temporal Constraint Satisfaction Problems

چکیده
Path-consistency algorithms, which are polynomial for discrete problems, are exponential when applied to problems involving quantitative temporal information. The source of complexity stems from specifying relationships between pairs of time points as disjunction of intervals. We propose a polynomial algorithm, called ULT, that approximates path-consistency in Temporal Constraint Satisfaction Problems (TCSPs). We compare ULT empirically to path-consistency and directional path-consistency algorithms. When used as a preprocessing to backtracking, ULT is shown to be 10 times more e ective then either DPC or PC-2.

Weak and Dynamic Controllability of Temporal Problems with Disjunctions and Uncertainty
The Temporal Constraint Satisfaction Problem with Uncertainty (TCSPU) and its disjunctive generalization, the Disjunctive Temporal Problem with Uncertainty (DTPU), are quantitative models for temporal reasoning that account simultaneously for disjunctive constraints and for events not under the control of the executing agent. Such a problem is Weakly Controllable if in each possible scenario th...
متن کاملProcessing Disjunctions in Temporal Constraint Networks
The framework of Temporal constraint Satisfaction Problems (TCSP) has been proposed for representing and processing temporal knowledge. Deciding consistency of TCSPs is known to be intractable. As demonstrates in this paper, even local consistency algorithms like path-consistency can be exponential due to the fragmentation problem. We present two new polynomial approximation algorithms, Upper-L...
متن کاملDisjunction of Non-binary and Numeric Constraint Satisfaction Problems
Nowadays, many researchers are working on Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSPs). Many CSPs can be modelled as non-binary CSPs and, theoretically, they can be transformed into an equivalent binary CSP, using some of the current techniques. However, this transformation may be an inadequate or inefficient way to manage certain types of non-binary constraints. In this paper, we propose an algorit...
متن کاملManaging Dynamic Temporal Constraint Networks
This paper concerns the specialization of arcconsistency algorithms for constraint satisfaction in the management of quantitative temporal constraint networks. Attention is devoted to the design of algorithms that support an incremental style of building solutions allowing both constraint posting and constraint retraction. In particular, the AC-3 algorithm for constraint propagation, customized...
متن کاملAdaptive CHR Meets CHRv: An Extended Refined Operational Semantics for CHRv Based on Justifications
Adaptive constraint processing with Constraint Handling Rules (CHR) allows the application of intelligent search strategies to solve Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSP), but these search algorithms have to be implemented in the host language of adaptive CHR, which is currently Java. On the other hand, CHR enables to explicitly formulate search in CHR, using disjunctive bodies to model choice...
